Essential Oils for Skin Care

Essential oils have roots in ancient beauty rituals dating back to Cleopatra days! Their popularity in the recent times have skyrocketed dramatically - especially for those seeking natural skincare ingredients.

From soothing dry skin to reducing signs of aging, reducing skin pigmentation to general glowing skin; it’s easy to believe the fragrant little bottles are a skincare cure-all.

Some of the most loved essential oils for skin care:

1. Lavender Essential Oil: This is probably the most loved essential oil for so many reasons. It is the most versatile essential oil. Lavender oil gently moisturizes skin, and is non-comedogenic for pores. Lavender oil is naturally antibacterial, meaning that it kills acne-causing bacteria that might infiltrate your pores. It has also been effective in reducing skin discoloration/pigmentation.

Mix a few drops of this oil with your favourite moisturiser/cream and apply regularly to your skin.

2. Frankincense Essential Oil: For anti-aging benefits, look no further than frankincense essential oil. It’s ultra nourishing for dry and mature skin.

Mix a few drops of this oil with your favourite moisturiser/cream and apply regularly to your skin.

3. Tea Tree Essential Oil: Studies have shown tea tree oil is effective in treating mild to moderate acne. It is naturally anti-inflammatory and anti-microbial, decreasing skin surface bacteria, fungus, and viruses. A mild side effect like dryness can occur, so, it is highly recommended to do a patch test before treating your entire face.

Mix 1-2 drops of this oil with a carrier oil/mousturiser to the affected area.

4. Peppermint Essential OilPeppermint oil naturally cleanses the skin and has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. It has a cooling effect which soothes irritation and inflammation due to acne.

5. Ylang-Ylang Essential Oil: The potent anti-bacterial properties of Ylang Ylang Essential Oil make it a very effective skin cleanser. It also acts as a healing powerhouse, boosting the regenerative process of the epidermis. It is also helpful in treating skin blemishes.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Never use any essential oil directly on your skin. Always dilute it with a 'carrier oil' like coconut oil or almond oil or any other oil of your choice.
